Christian Leprosy Centre, Chandraghona (CLC) is a sixty (60) bedded hospital. In 1913, the first leprosy sufferer arrived at Christian hospital Chandraghona and from that one patient a service of dedication and compassion grew. Today, Christian Leprosy Centre continues to be the main centre of referral for the treatment of leprosy complications in greater Chittagong division and serves approximately 30 million people.
Leprosy treatment was added to the existing medical work in 1913. CLC is one of the oldest leprosy hospitals on the Indian subcontinent and is the oldest in Bangladesh. Since 1925, Mission to Lepers (now The Leprosy Mission International) has been providing financial assistance for this work. Until 1993, CLC was also involved in leprosy control program around parts of Chittagong Division , conducting fixed clinics in different locations. Since 1994, CLC has concentrated exclusively on hospital –based work for leprosy patients with complications. All treatment and food is provided free of charge, thanks to support from The Leprosy Mission, Life River Osaka, Japan. In addition to this work, CLC also runs an ashram for four very old leprosy patients who, whilst now cured , still have some form of deformity. These patients were never able to return home because their families and villages would not accept them. We hope to continue providing holistic care to leprosy patients for many years to come.
